Protecting what matters by building what’s next.

About the Port of Bellingham

Established in 1920, the Port of Bellingham plays a major role in supporting transportation, economic development, industry, and public infrastructure throughout Whatcom County. Like the other public port districts across Washington State, the Port exists to help strengthen trade, commerce, job creation, and regional connectivity while managing important waterfront, airport, and industrial resources for public benefit.

Today, the Port supports hundreds of local businesses and thousands of jobs across Whatcom County. Port facilities include the Bellingham Airport, shipping and industrial properties, marinas and harbors, the Bellingham Cruise Terminal, the Alaska Ferry terminal, and the Fairhaven Transportation Center. Each year, more than 800,000 travelers use Bellingham Airport, tens of thousands of passengers travel through the Alaska Ferry and Amtrak station, and thousands of residents attend events hosted at Port facilities throughout the county.

The Port also manages more than 1,600 acres of land, nearly 2,000 harbor slips, and supports over 200 businesses operating on Port property. From maritime industries and transportation infrastructure to tourism, agriculture, manufacturing, logistics, and workforce development, the Port has a direct impact on the economic strength and long-term future of Whatcom County.

Practical leadership for a growing region.

Whatcom County is growing and changing, and the decisions we make today will shape our economy, infrastructure, and communities for decades to come. I believe the Port should focus on practical solutions, responsible growth, and investments that strengthen opportunity while preserving the character and quality of life that make this region special.
